USA: American Heartland Verbally Assaulted by Cuddle and Coo Doll

October 9, 2008

The haters have reached new lows of Islamophobic stupidity with allegations that Fisher-Price’s “Little Mommy Real Loving Baby Cuddle and Coo” doll invokes Satan AND proclaims “Islam is the Light.” (Note to the gullible: a so-called Islamic doll would not gurgle phrases like “Satan is King.”)

I listened to the clip of this doll and could not detect any words — just baby-like babbling.

Of course NBC affiliate KJRH senses an opportunity to inflame the locals with this unbiased poll:

What do you think about the doll that sounds like it is promoting Islam?
- It offends me
- I’m fine if people know what they are buying
- It doesn’t bother me

Give. Me. A. Break.

UPDATED: Does doll deliver Islamic message?

Jason Grubbs (KJYH)

Parents are outraged about the messages they’re hearing from a doll. It’s Fisher-Price’s “Little Mommy Real Loving Baby Cuddle and Coo” doll.

People claim they can hear it mumble “Satan is king,” and clearly speak “Islam is the light.”…

Some stores are actually caving in to this nitwittery by pulling the dolls from the shelves.

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything more absurd.

I’m a little embarrassed here….I maxed out my stereo speakers and from the QT audio in the linked article:
“laugh/coo…go…mmmm ma ma ma ma god is the light”
You hear of urban myths of things like people sabotaging toys and graphics . I don’t know. I will say this. Under no circumstance am I hearing what the nutters are saying it says.

This Nation was founded on Christian principles. For this to be released in stores in Oklahoma is too much.

I believe in religious tolerance, but this has crossed the line.

Just in time fro the Christmas retail season, we should organize a boycott on the toy industry. This product probably came from China.

It may be the first strike in a War on Christmas 2008.

It truly is absurd. I wonder if anyone has tried playing the sound clip backwards? They should be able to milk a bit more manufactured hysteria out of that.

This doll has been out for over a year now, so it’s not a “strike in a War on Christmas”.

And how silly of me!…..all this time I thought my daughter’s doll was saying “My mom is alright”. Go figure!

Life is what you make it….so is baby babble.

Im sure all of this will boost sales for the doll. Personally, I believe the doll after all the cooing states “Bin Laden is alive”. I’ve never heard anyone to say they think it says it says that, but that’s my opinion. Its also only a doll one way or another and I am very grounded and stable with my faith as anyone should be, so if you are so afraid of what a doll may say that you’ll lose your faith over it, you’d better reo-think how strong of a person you are

When I was young and first learning in middle school of the Salem Witch Trials, I often thought to myself “what gibbering fools the Puritans must have been to succumb to such ridiculous hysteria” and later, in high school, similarly wondered in horrible disbelief at a population that so readily subscribed to the Nazi ideal, a belief system that eventually lead to one of the most terrible chapters in modern history. I believe now that we know what sorts of people these were. Many of them call themselves Social Conservatives, and Christians, and Americans. They live next door to you. Their children sit next to yours and mine in school. But their defining purpose, unlike we who can accept and even celebrate the differences of our neighbors, is to propagate fear and animosity and prejudice of anyone even vaguely unlike themselves. They commit this tragic disservice in the name of their god or draped in the flag of their country, and it both saddens and confuses me that such individuals and I could be of the same species. I am embarrassed by it and them as an American, and angered by it as a human being. Control yourselves. Be adults for once in your sad misguided lives. Attempt some basic form of humanity. I don’t think it’s really that much to ask.

A friend told me about this doll today while we were out walking and I didn’t believe her. They just opened a Target store less than a mile from our homes so she said come on I willl show you. I didn’t hear anything about Satan but clear as day it says ISLAM IS THE LIGHT. We brought it up to the supervisors attention and told her to just listen to it not telling her what it said. She was freaking out and called the Manager! They both heard it too!

I’m not sure who the next “group” of people our country is going to try and bring down, but, I can say for sure no one will compare a crazy christian who believes he is God and has a compound in Waco, TX to the rest of the christians in this country, that would be insane, Right? I could have sworn that my daughter said a cuss word when she started to babble, but not one person in my family curses. I think it is a little funny that some are soooooo freaked out, if you were the least bit educated you would realize that most PEOPLE would love more than anything just to live in peace. The crazies will always be crazy no matter where they come from.
