This is a sad situation, and I pray that Muslim women are able to bring an end to it soon for their own sake. It reminds me of the injustice going on in the Jewish community, where a woman can be left an agunah, (or chained woman), by a husband who chooses to abandon her and sometimes to then extort her for money or whatever. Sick.

Yes, it’s the same principle — reduce the woman to a non-entity while the husband behaves in an atrocious manner, backed up by judges who don’t trouble themselves with concepts like “fairness” and “impartiality”.
However, this isn’t always the case for Muslim women — their treatment in court really depends on where they are living. Some courts/councils are more enlightened than others.
