About Marital Rape . . .
January 31, 2009
I am absolutely disgusted with this latest declaration by a female scholar on Islam online.
Zienab Mostafa (IslamOnline.net)
… Of course if the husband insists on sleeping with his wife by force, it would not be considered rape since this is a right granted to him, but it is also not in accordance with Islamic teachings ….
Soooooooooo … it’s “not nice” to sexually assault your wife, but it’s your right to do so if you want to.
According to her IslamOnline bio…
Zienab Mostafa is a well-known Da`iyah based in London. She is distinguished in clarifying the Islamic rulings pertaining women’s issues.
I’m fairly sure that marital rape NOT legal in the UK where this woman is based and I urge women who are living under these violent and humiliating conditions to seek help from law enforcement.
A more rational view on the evil of sexual violence within marriage is offered here from Debra Mubashshi (ProgressiveIslam.org):

You’re right it is not legal in the UK. It was until recently (early 1990s) perfectly legal for a man to rape his wife (or vice versa) in Britain, but not any more.
There is no right granted under UK law to rape your wife, but in Britain it seems that there is an ever widening gulf between religious rules and actual laws. And it seems that many religious leaders are preaching that their religious laws come first, the law of the land second (Christians and Muslims both).
Sadly she is not alone in her opinion, surprisingly many other women also hold this view.

Salam.
I feel you on this. Islamic feminists are pushing for more female scholars, more female interpretations, and then a female scholar regurgitates the same anti-women stances that male scholars throw out. Women does not equal pro-women, unfortunately.

Fatemeh, you hit the nail on the head. As soon as I saw the person giving the ruling was a woman, I had this horrible feeling that she was being using to justify patriarchal violence. If a man had said this, I’m sure IslamOnline.net would know that an uproar would be waiting. But when a woman says this, it must not be bad.
*sigh* How many women will read this and think they must give up the goods to their husbands?

Thats why wimmin get married though, they want to experience the pure violence of patrominial egalitarian open legs syndrome for themselves, and use this to galvanise themselves against men.
